"Making Academic Truths Relevant to the Lay Christian."

In many Christian circles, theology and doctrine are considered very academic and not relevant to everyday life. There could be nothing further from reality! This averseness to theology and doctrine has resulted in Christians not knowing who God is, what He has done, and our identity in Him. These “academic” truths (Biblical truths), when truly understood, should empower the Christian to live a God-glorifying life full of joy and purpose!

PURPOSE / GOAL

God does all things for His glory (Rom 11:36) and we are called to glorify God in all things (1 Cor 10:31). Therefore, the primary goal of this ministry is to glorify God. 

The God of the Bible, the LORD, is infinite. Yet, He has chosen to reveal Himself through His Word in a way that we, finite human beings, can grasp it. Many lifetimes have been spent in understanding God’s revelation. Often these topics are reserved for “academic” studies due to their complexity. However, the material taught in seminaries should be made available for the benefit of the whole Church. The goal of this ministry is to simplify these concepts so all Christians can comprehend God’s revelation. The task is to communicate with clarity the complex doctrines of the Christian faith. 

It is not enough to simplify and communicate the Christian doctrines with clarity; it is imperative to see how these doctrines impact our life. Knowledge for the sake of knowledge achieves no real purpose but only produces pride and puffed-up individuals. With every doctrine we learn, we should praise and worship God more. And our worship of God should overflow into our everyday lives as we glorify Him through our actions. The goal of this ministry is to show the impact of God’s truths on our lives in a practical way. It is through application that every doctrine/teaching becomes real to us. 

This ministry will mainly focus on reaching lay or everyday Christians – those who have not considered deepening their knowledge of who God is, what He has done, and our identity in Him. Many Christians today have a very superficial understanding of God, and in some cases, a false understanding (see surveys on thestateoftheology.com).

Christianity is reduced to “Moralistic Therapeutic Deism.” That is, there is a belief that a creator God exists and watches over human life on earth. This God wants people to do the right thing and live a moral life. The goal for humans is to be happy and feel good about themselves. Consequently, feelings have become the standard by which everything is judged including church services and God’s commands. Most often, God is viewed as a problem-solver.

This is not the God of the Bible and it is not Biblical Christianity. Instead, God has declared Himself to be sovereign over all things. He has spoken and we are to judge everything by His Word. He calls Christians to love Him and be transformed by the renewing of their minds (Rom 12:1-2) and be conformed to the image of His Son (Rom 8:29).

To show the progression from Bible Story to Doctrine, from Doctrine to Worship, and from Worship to Christian living.
To demonstrate the development of theological concepts and practice over the history of the Church.
To present a reasoned defense for the truth of Christianity.
