Ecclesiology is the study of the Church. The Church is the body of Christ. It is a group of individuals who are “called out.” The Church comprises of those who have renounced the world and have become united with Christ. It is made up of people from every nation, tongue and tribe, who have all been brought together to be one people through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is the head and the cornerstone of the church. The catholic (universal) Church is spread all over the world through various local churches.
Understanding the nature of the church helps Christians to worship God effectively as a body. This knowledge determines the structure and the character of the local church. It determines everything the local church does including leadership, membership, ministries, and discipline.
